This journal looks at the history of hotels, stores and post offices in the Kaihu Valley area.  As commerce grew between the Hokianga and Northern Wairoa and more people were employed in the flax, Kauri gum, timber and related industries so did the thirst of those people grow and so therefore the demand for public houses supplying alcoholic beverages grew.
